CR England, Here I Come

Okay: So Monday I will be starting class with CR England. Sunday night I have to check into a hotel in Colton, CA. I will be staying there for 18 days while I train. I believe I will have a roommate. After the 18 days they will ship me to Salt Lake City, Utah. There I will get my Hard Copy CDL and meet up with my OTR trainer whom I will ride and learn with over a period of 4 weeks. During this time I will be getting paid.
At the end of that I become certified with CR England, I will be assigned to a "C.A.T." program for an additional 4 weeks (which I will be getting paid for also). I have the option of taking 3-4 days off either prior to the C.A.T. program or after. I will likely take the time off before, although I may just want to get it over with and just keep going. To either end, at that point I will be assigned a truck and begin my career as an OTR Trucker.

Schneider Interview

Well, Schneider turned me down today. It's because I had a suspended licence within the last year. It was for no front licence plate. I had mailed the ticket in but God only knows what happened to it. I was notified by my insurance company of the suspension and promptly took care of the situation. So Schneider wants there to be 2 years with no suspensions. Bummer.
Oh well, that's the way it goes some times. Good thing that CR England has accepted me. So I will continue on with them.

Today Part Two (Backup Plan)

The other company I was thinking of going with is CR England. I was already approved thru them so I registered for school with them today just in case something doesn't pan out with Schneider. I have until Thursday to cancel with England.
I am anxious to get started so I will take the path of least resistance. My ultimate goal is to pay my dues with either company to get the experience under my belt then swap over to a better company. There are better opportunities out there.
Here is a picture for ya.

DMV Closed Today

I stayed up late last night to go over the CDL Manual. I got up early to go to the DMV to take my CDL written exam and the HazMat exam. All of the DMV locations in California are closed today. Bummer. I have an interview with Schneider tomorrow morning and wanted to be able to tell them that I had my permits so there wouldn't be any delay in getting into school.
Well, hopefully things will go smooth tomorrow and things don't get to complicated.

Wish Me Luck

Tomorrow I am going to go to the Department of Motor Vehicles and take my CDL permit exams with a HazMat endorsement. I just found out on Saturday that I needed the HazMat. I've been studing all weekend. Not sure what is going to be on the test so I have been trying to remember as much as I can. I will let you know tomorrow how things went...

A Day Of Research

Hello All:
Today I decided to go down to the training centers for both CR England and Schneider. I wanted to ask some questions and poke around to see how things were ran and to get an overall feel for the facility.
First I went to CR England; the address they give is to a private school that trains for other companies as well. One door said CR England and the other CRST. There was nobody there and I could get no questions answered.
Next I went to Schneider. The training facility is located at their hub in Fontana, CA. Unfortunately, there wasn't much information to be had there either as the trainers were busy with students. So I sat at the hub for awhile waiting for an opportunity to do some checking and talking, but to no avail. I did get a chance to see all the trucks at that location and they were all late model Freightliner Century Class. I wasn't expecting to see so many nice trucks; they all looked in good shape.
So I called Schneider’s recruiting office in Greenbay, WI. to check on my application. They gave me a preliminary interview and said all was well. They wanted to set up a phone interview for hiring which is set for Tuesday May 17th, 2005.
I HAVE A GOOD FEELING ABOUT SCHNEIDER
Next I went by a used truck dealership where I explained to the salesman that I was about to go to trucking school. I wanted to get a sense of what it is like inside the cab, how heavy is the clutch ect, ect. He agreed to let me check it out, and so I did.
Okay, still with a head full of questions, I headed over to the TA Truck stop in Fontana, CA. I went inside and found an independent driver and offered to buy him lunch if he would sit with me and talk. He agreed of course and we spent 2 hours covering all of my questions and then some. He said nothing but good about Schneider and didn't say very much of CR England.
I think I have made a decision as to which Company to start with. Let me give you a hint, their trucks are BIG and ORANGE.
Okay, so on the way home I saw this stake bed burning and thought I'd get a picture to share with you.
Hot Dogs Anyone?

Just getting started

Hi all:
As of this writing on May 13, 2005 I am trying to decide between CR England and Schneider. Both have there good points and draw backs. I am a 40 year old mechanic that has had enough of wrenching. I have been doing it for 25 years and I am tired. I enjoy driving and have had driving jobs in the past (tow truck, currier) but never the "Big Rig". I have always wanted to do OTR Trucking but it was never the right time or place.
Well, recently I was deciding on a new career and started attending a local college in order to become a Network Engineer. Coming up on the end of my first semester I started thinking, "What the heck am I doing, I can't sit behind a desk" and then the call of the road hit me.
So for the last month I have been researching things and have decided that this is the life for me.
Follow along as I attend a company based driving school. I will report back on how things are going both while in the local training phase and out on the road with a trainer. Next follow along as I begin my career as a company driver.
