Feeling Sick...

My mentor was involved in an accident..Witnesses say he went off the road and into an orchard..The tractor is demolished and my mentor is in the ICU being airlifted to the hospital..I just had a cigarrette break with him an hour before..I lied to the hospital staff and told them I was his nephew just to see him..I did and what I saw shook me up even more..What was once a strong-willed man was wittled down to an old man with a bunch of tubes in the ICU..I left him a note with an unopened can of Pepsi (We always bought each other soft drinks)..I had to pull one of his loads that night even though the last thing I wanted to do after hearing the news was jump into the truck and pull his loads..I did but I thought the whole time..I want to go home..I want to go home..We were inseperable..Everytime we could we would talk and he would teach me wisdom about the business..What to do and what not to do..How things really work..I wouldn't be in the positon I am in without him..There he was in the hospital lying there and I kept thinking thats me in 30 years..It makes me gun-shy about the whole business..I really am re-thinking this whole business and thinking about doing something else..We really were that close mentally..To have one of your best friends in the ICU after a truck accident should shake anybody up..If it doesn't then there is something wrong with you..My grandmother asked an airman one time from WWII "How did you guys do it? You're safe in England one minute and the next hour your being shot at over Germany?" The airman replied "Well when we were back in England we just got drunk"..Well I drank more than a few after I got off work that night..I really don't know where the future for me is headed in this business after something like this..I just hope and pray that he makes it through and gets better..VM-out!

Sorry to here about your friends accident. I hope he recovers and gets back into a truck soon. My wife and I had lost a close friend and coworker to a massive heart attack a few years ago. So we know how your feeling. Just hang in there and don't push yourself too hard.

Him and his family (as well as you) are in my thoughts and prayers. Take each day as it comes. You have to do what you feel is best for you when it comes to staying in the business or not but try not to react to quickly. Give things some time. I know it isn't easy. I would hate for the business to loose a great person and a great driver like you but if you decide that leaving is best for you and your family, you have my support as well as the support of many others. If you need to talk, you have my number. Godspeed. -TT
