Here is how it really is. Do yuo know the saying chief cook and bottle washer? well that ain't the half of it. Not only do you have to take care of the kids, run the house, work full time, and run the trucking business, you must be a bright light for him when he comes home after a long day, week or few weeks on the road. You worry if he is eating right on the road, if he is sleeping rigth, will some idiot try to mow him down. Will someone try to break into his truck while he is in the truckstop sleeping.

Being independent, we have to do all the paperwork for the federal and state governments. That includes but is not limited to taxes, IFTA quarterly fuel taxes, 2290, SSR, base plates, and registrations. Some of these are simple and others are more complicated. Not to mention the files you must keep for DOT and FSMSC.

Then you must help with mapping and routing. Just last night, a tire got a spike in it. First you find on the map where he is,, then you comb the internet to find a truck that will go to see him and have the tire he needs. Then you keep him company on the phone while he waits fo rthe wrecker. Then knwing he is backed up by two hours you worry will he make his drop?

Then the next day if you have to find him another load, check the boards and make a few calls to customers to see if anyone has freight running where you want to go. Make sure your paperwork is in order for the customer.

Then when he gets home, hold him and love him and make sure he is once again safe. Then check all bills of lading and invoice and mail bills to customer and hope the check gets here soon.

And let us not forget, laundry.
