[Comments] [Send Article] [Improper]Kind of miss the road and need the experience. Only been doing this for 2 years now but...I don't know how anybody could drive a truck these days. Maybe if you live in a lower cost of living area like Mississippi or Arkansas in a one bedroom apartment for $300 a month and are single. Thirty some cents a mile even at 3000 a week bearly nets you $700 and for a family of 4 with a $1300-$1900 morgauge is impossible. I got companies beating on my door to come work for them but don't pay sh--! I deliver fuel locally and work 10-12 hours a day (home daly), grossing $1200+ a week. I just can't see how any OTR or regional can compete...Well I can, there are some out there who settle for a couple of bucks over minimum wage.

The real question is "how do we bring about change in our industry, which benefits those who do the actual work in such a way as to provide them with a viable and fair wage for their labor and sacrifces?" Whether the driver is local or OTR is unimportant. What is important is that he or she be compensated equitably in view of the important function of the job he or she performs. Perhaps that is the reason most drivers appear to be angry most of the time anymore...something to think about! Happy Trails, otr@cdldriver.net
