Truck parking

[Comments] [Send Article] [Improper]Maybe it has changed since I retired but truck parking was a nightmare. I have been to 4 truckstops and 3 rest area's,they were all full. I can't count the times I have had to go to sleep on a ramp. We all know that's not a good place to park and sleep, but we have no choice sometimes. I got stopped in Mississippi one night,was over my hours, and was tired. The cop asked me why I was not stopped somewhere to get my required sleep time. I told him that I had been looking for a place to sleep for over an hour but everywhere I went was full. He told me that it was not his problem and gave me a ticket.I read an article yesterday about the US closing more rest areas,WOW! what a stupid thing to do. They say the reason they are closing them is because of the scum that hangs out in them,how sad. Trucks move this country but yet no one seems to care about truckers

It sounds like you loved your job. If i may ask for your help with my son that loves his truck job to until he or someone hit him and now could face to lose his job . He was stopped waiting to park for the night at a rest stop and another car behind him got hit by another car and pushed the first car into him and now he says he might loss his job plus he has been sitting for days waiting to work and not getting paid. have you ever heard anything like that before. He loves the road but this might of changed his mind. what do you think about that one?

It depends on where he was parked. Was he in a legal parking place. It is so tough out there and at times a driver will have no choise but to park in a bad place. Of course when a trucker gets hit by a 4 wheeler, the trucker will almost always get blamed.If he loves the road,he should hang in there. I spent 29 years on the road and I would not trade the memories for anything. Good luck to ya'll.
