SaddleTramp's Space

Grounded for a While

[Comments] [Send Article] [Improper]

I was in a wreck on December 26th, 2004 in which I suffered a badly fractured hip joint/pelvis. It's been a long slow recovery. They put things back together using pins and screws and I've been recouperating ever since.

I really miss being on the road. After being used to being on the go for so many years, it's hard to just sit around and do nothing. Even harder when you have no income.

The past couple of weeks I've been able to walk a little without using crutches, and just a cane. Yesterday I was able to take a few steps without leaning on the cane. Still hurts, but it's getting better.

Hopefully I'll be able to go back to pulling step decks and RGNs in a few more months. The doctor tells me he doesn't think I'll ever be able to again, but I am determined to get back on the road eventually. What's a little pain compared to the freedom of the road?

The thing I'm not too sure about is whether I'll ever be able to tarp again. All that lifing and climbing just may not be possible for me again. That remains to be seen.

In the mean-time, I'll keep working on learning to walk again and getting myself in some kind of shape to get back to work. As my savings are now completely gone, I need to get back to work ASAP.

ALWAYS hate to here that especially when it comes from someone that actually WANTS to work. Try pulling a grain hopper for a while. A lot less climbing around.
