Just trucking along

good week

I had a pretty good week as far as miles. Just over 3100 miles for 5 days and none of the loads were over 600 miles. Left out rather late on Monday and was home real early this morning. Not bad for having a newbie driver manager. I suppose I should come up with some sort of advertisement since so many are coming on here to do it!! What do you think VM? Maybe we could clean up after the pigs that call themselves truckers and sell them slightly damaged pee bombs that are laying everywhere! We would be doing our part for cleaning up these areas and also be recycling!!Some of these geniuses would probably take us up on it!! All we need to do is find someone foolish enough to pick them up. I feel sorry for the people that have to deal with that disgusting stuff. I seen some drivers toss garbage out on the ground while sitting in a truck stop and then get out and walk past a trash can on thier way into the building. I figured I would do them a favor by picking up the trash. When they came back to thier truck I walked over to them with the trash. When he opened the window I climbed up onto the side of the truck, dumped the garbage on his lap and told him I seen this stuff fall out of his truck and that he might want it back. If he didn't want it back I suggested trying to use them new fangled things called a trash can and pointed to the one just a few feet away and then walked back to my truck. His IQ was showing loud and clear as I walked back to my truck. He was calling me everything but a human. When I got in the truck other drivers were laughing and talking about what I did on the radio! I also called his company and informed them of the pig they had.

Seems like have a lot more "Trucking Rejects" these days who give us a bad name. I have to admit I have used "trucker bombs" in the past but I always dumped them out on dirt or grass somewhere. I keep the truck I am assigned clean, hence my boss lets me drive our pride of our fleet truck because I don't leave it a mess when I get out of it. Cleanliness I think is an attitude thing I think. The cleaner the truck usually the more professional the driver. When I was growing up I had a neighbor that was a fuel hauler (owner-op) that was always washing his truck and he was quite a good neighbor and a shining example to our industry. I think an IQ test should be mandatory when getting a CDL also. VM-out!

AMEN brother!!! I cannot believe how inconsiderate people still are about littering and picking up after themselves. As a kid growing up, if we ever threw anything out the window of the car or on the ground, we got it but good. When I got my driver's license I had a friend who threw an empty can out the window - I pulled over and stopped and made my friend walk back and pick it up. There is never an excuse - if you're not near a trash can now, you will be sometime. Keep a bag in your truck and dispose of it properly. Glad you called his company, too. Keep up the good work and DRIVE SAFE.

This is what we need to do if we want to clean up this industry. Don't wait for the next guy to do something. I watched a Werner driver pull into a truckstop and take out a small sign and hit a concrete barrier. He moved that barrier about 6 ft and took out the side marker light on the trailer. I went into the truckstop to let him know what happened and he just looked out the store window and started laughing about it.He wasn't laughing after I informed the manager of the truckstop and called his safety dept to explain what I saw and how the driver reacted. It wasn't too long and a local cop was there making out a report. You can bet I told the cop what I saw! I know I've done things over the years, but I think I would know when I hit something made of concrete and would stop to investigate. If I hit something I find whoever is in charge and let them know what happened.

The place I work at has had its fence ran over twice in less than a week. Outside drivers ran it over because none of our trucks had any damage, I am a lead man so I have to awnswer to my boss why the fence is down. So he put a conrete filled 15" pipe on where it keeps on getting runover. At least now we'll know who ran over it because that baby aint moving and is gonna do some damage to any trailer that runs it over. I too am on the War-path on these "Trucking Rejects" that give us all a bad name. VM_out!
