We started out with very little snow this winter and now we're getting lots of it. Last weekend we ended up with about 16" and now they're talking about another one blowing in starting Weds. nite through Thursday night into Friday. Could get anywhere from 6" to 18" from this one. So we could end up with 2 to 3 ft of snow within a weeks time!! And this isn't even lake effect snow like upstate New York has been getting. My Ski Doo is just itching to get out of the shed again.
I managed to get out of town on Sunday. Picked up my load and managed to go a whole 61 miles before I parked it. I watched some four wheelers lose it about a 1/4 mile up the road from me.One happened to be a 4x4 pickup.By the time I come crawling thru there the pickup managed to get pointed back toward the road. The next thing I know he is back out on the highway and swerving all over the place. The scary part was it was happening right along side my tractor. He was extremely lucky he didn't hit me or wind up back in the ditch again or both!! That's when I decided that was enough. The road conditions didn't bother me, it was all the idiots out there. These people with suv's and 4 wheel drive pickups think they can run at the posted speed limit as long as they have the 4 wheel drive engaged. The 4 wheel drive helps with control better than 2 wheel drive when traveling at a safe speed. If you had to drive 35 or 40 mph in your old 2 wheel drive to stay on the road then thats the seed they need to travel with the 4 wheel drive.

It looks like I may have to sit home all weekend! They are calling for a light dusting of snow starting Saturday night and last all day Sunday (6 to 12 inches!!!).It just breaks my heart to think I may have to stay home an extra day and go snowmobiling!! If there's time I may think of all the poor souls that have to work in it! I think everybody knows that I would rather be in the truck trying to get down the road. To those that believe that last remark, let me know because I may have a deal you just won't be able to pass up. I couldn't believe it when they said it will hit Wisconsin over the weekend instead of during the week. I'm usually in the truck trying to get someplace when that stuff hits. That last big one to come through found me in Missouri with a whole 9,000# in the box.The roads were not a safe place for me to be that week.Icy roads and high winds makes for treacherous travel. It took me 3 days to travel from Kansas City to Chicago. Hard to make money like that. So anybody heading up into the midwest keep your ears listening to weather reports. They are talking a mixed bag for Chicago. Rain freezing rain and rain and snow mixed. Doesn't that sound like fun? Be sure to pack a lunch if your headed this way for the weekend.
If anybody gets stranded any where near Green Bay let me know. That way I'll know what area to avoid while on the snowmobile!! Just kidding. If anyone is stuck between Green Bay and Oshkosh on a weekend, leave a message on here and we can work something out to meet up. That goes for anytime of the year. During the summer we can always spend the day on the water with my boat or I can take people out on the ice during the winter. Alot of people from the warmer areas of the country generally have a problem with that one. Driving a car out onto a lake to go fishing is crazy. I like taking them out during the sturgeon spearing on Lake Winnebago. You sit in a shack with no windows or lights and stare down a 3' by 5' hole in the ice and watch for a Sturgeon to swim by and then try to spear it. People will walk into the shack, see the big hole cut in the ice and head out the door and for shore.
Everybody be safe out here this weekend. This storm sounds like it is going to be another nasty one. I'll be home later today and then get ready for the fun to start.

I had the joy of driving in some of the snowstorm that rolled across the central part of the country. I delivered in Kansas City,Mo on Monday and picked up a load in Blue Springs,Mo. Well that wasted the whole day.Delivered at 1100 and couldn't pickup next load until 1900. Well as luck would have it I sat there until 2300. By that time the weather went from rain to freezing rain to sleet and then a nice coating of wet snow on top of the ice. Needless to say I didn't travel too far with my 9000# load. Now here it is Weds afternoon near Chicago and I'm still sitting on the load. I can't deliver until 0600 in North Chicago. I'm getting pretty good at sitting this week. I wasn't about to try driving through blizzard conditions yesterday. I spent Tuesday night near St Louis. The roads were still kinda nasty on I-57 between St Louis and Bloomington,Il this morning. Some areas traffic was down to 30 mph.

It's finally feeling like winter! As of 11 AM it is a whole -8 with windchill around -35. Time to get out the shorts and suntan lotion!! It's going to get up to a balmy 14 by Thursday. Hey VM, your welcome to come to Wisconsin to escape the lousy California weather. I'm sure you can get a local job hauling home heating fuel or farm products and spend lots of time outside!! And if you enjoy fishing you can drive your car out on the lakes this time of year to fish. No boat needed!! Maybe you could get Lennut to come up here to join you. I'm sure he would be just as excited as you are about spending the winter up here. The only problem would probably be your wife. I'm sure she would have some interesting things to say about it!!!!
