Time to get Serious

[Comments] [Send Article] [Improper]

I don't like to be to policital but I believe its time that we the people get serious about our country and stop leaving it to be run by men and women who for the most part could care less about their fellow citizens. Their main concern is to get reelected every two or six years and shove their particular agenda down our thoarts for us to pay for it. I hear that the new transportation bill will provide funds to allow for wheelchair ramps in the Grand Canyon. Actually I heard they are getting about 2 million dollars from this bill. I have no problem giving money to our national parks but why does it come out of the transportation funds. Sounds like a whole lot of pork to me. Maybe a few new bike paths too. I know its easy to say if it don't effect my pocketbook I'm not worried about it. Guess what?? It does. I would rather give our intell and security forces the money at this time and get serious with this war on terror. Lets tell our elected rep, sentors and the President to stop the PC crap and get this job done. Make a call to your elected officials (if you know who they are) and tell them whats on your mind. Do you want your kids and grandkids fighting this war 10 years from now.

I have to agree with you on getting involved. We have a lot of influence in our own home towns. But it's very important to vote and to give even small amounts of campaign contributions (even if its only $20.). Most politicians use computer systems now. When a citizen writes them a letter, they check to see if that person voted and/or gave a contribution. If that person did neither, their opinion is not taken much into consideration. However, if 20 people write letters to a Congressmen expressing the same opinion on an issue, and all 20 of those people vote regularly, they will have influence over the Congressman. Those 20 people influence 20 x 20, and on down the line. Since Politicians have to be re-elected, they naturally are going to listen more to people who take part in the election process. That is where our power is, and we have a great system. But when only 40% of the population votes, we give the power to the politicians.
