Class A!

Well, I did it. Class A is mine! Tested this morning and passed! Thank the LORD. It's always nice to make progress and especially to get the testing over. Now, on to the real world. I know enough about life to know there's lots more to learn and that learning is never over. (sorry to steal anyone's thunder - Ha).

I did my skills test and driving test, today. Skills was great, and when we started the drive, I was suprised how nervous I became. I knew I could pass, but, the nervousness came up and just took over. I suppose it's to be expected any time I go under inspection.

Now it's on to Dallas. I'll be there by sometime next week and go through orientation. After that on the road.

By the way, a fellow student is wanting info: What do lumpers charge?

LORD bless, folks. I'll be writing.

Lumpers charge an arm and a leg!!! Actually it depends on what you have on,how much you have on and what needs to be done. I've been charges as little as $40 to as much as $275. Be sure to find out if a load needs to be fingerprinted and if the company you drive for will pay for a lumper. Some companies put a limit on how much they will pay and there are some that expect the driver to do the unloading and won't pay for a lumper. You won't get payed anywhere near the amount a lumper gets.Generally what you would get paid and the time it takes to get unloaded you will be lucky to make 2 bucks an hour. Reefer loads generally costs more. If that other driver is thinking of becoming an O/O the lumper fees come out of his or her pocket.

Thats right...you never stop learning even after doing this 5-6 years..I forget how long I've been actually driving for a living. Like yesterday, I learned to read the fuel tank gauge at my work so I can tell my boss when it gets low so we can order fuel. Its one nugget of info at a time that adds to a lot of info after years of doing things. VM-out!

Mark, I just caught up on what your up to these days. Congrats on passing and getting your Class A. Nan and I both wish you the best. Sometimes I wish I had turned my Mil. Hazmat training and experiance into a cilvian job, but then I wake up. I like my 9 to 5 to much. Proud of you Mark, stay safe. Keith
