Thats right folks, still 52 days (and a wake up) away from leaving Germany and I have a firm job offer. So I'm going to post it here and get some feedback from you find truckers out there. The position is with Swift out of Salt Lake. Starts with a 3day orientation, followed by 6 weeks on the road for training before going solo or team. So, how about it people, how's Swift? I've heard they are a good place to get your feet wet and get some experience for 6-12months, then go elsewhere for more money. Since at 12months I'll be at $0.33/mile (provided they make the promised raises) I'm curious how much more there is to make with 12months experience. Any input you all have would be awesome.

You know its a funny thing that one company in particular has new trucks all the time. I wonder where all that money is going?..I look into my wallet and its not going there. Why with their turn over rate it must be fantastic to work there. Hmm..Maybe thats why they have new trucks?..VM-being very reserved and restrained. Hey bud,..I got some old paystubs from Swift I can take a pic of and show you. VM-out!again! I could post a whole lot more but won't because I've said my peace about Swift and nobody else wants to hear it.VM-out!

haha, I know how you feel about Swift VM. If I could find a school that accepted GI Bill, I'd be all over it. but even if swift is crappy, they will get me in the door. I haven't stopped looking at other companies ofcourse, but I have a standing offer from them. As for turnover, it seems the whole industry has about 100% turnover. If they'd get rid of pay/mile and go to pay/hours driven it would be much better. So if you know a better company that offers paid training, I'm so down to hear suggestions, becuase I haven't found any.

As for companies that pay for training,I've heard Schnieder now pays for training and I know they have the best training program out here.As far as trucking companies are concerned that is. Newbies at Swift get the honor of driving the worst trucks out here. I sometimes wonder how some of those trucks make it down the road. Once you get the experience you will get into a nicer truck, thats if you are willing to stay there. I think Swift and CR England recruiters are at the top of the list for dishing out the BS and being able to keep a straight face while doing it. As far as turn over, alot of companies aren't having that big of a problem with turn over. It's the outfits like Swift and a few others with huge turnover rates that keep those numbers high.

Swift was a good company until VM worked there then it went to hades. Honestly though VM can give you some good pointers on Swift and what not to do with them. He doesn't have a tremendous amount of experience but he does know what he is talking about and he is very good at this job called truck driving. Now, don't let that go to your head, VM. Personally I am glad you are coming into the industry, gunner, because now I can retire after my 35 years out here.
