Last week in Germany

Well my friends the time is almost upon us... my last week in Germany has begun, and I'm proud to say that I'm ahead of schedual paperwork wise to leave on time, with no issues. Next saturday got a nice long flight from Frankfurt GE to Chicago IL, then a nice lil 4hr layover with two kids before boarding another flight to Las Vegas, getting there late afternoon (4-5ish) and man I'm gonna be one tired dude. Anyways just thought I'd take a quick minute to send out an update since I've been so busy getting outta here I haven't had time to breath let alone send emails, so to those of you who contact me personally, please be patient, I'm trying to catch up.

New idea... input needed please!

I actually agree with you all, and as you all know I'm a rookie to the civilian trucking industry. But I KNOW VM, and a couple others will be happy to hear that I'm going to do a new program called Operation Freedom, for people like me leaving the military to use our GI Bill to pay for trucking school, and we get our GI Bill benefits for our first 12months on the road as an Aprentice Driver. The company I'm going to school at is Western Truck School which is based in Sacramento but has a school in Las Vegas, and the company I'll be driving for after that is Werner. I know its still a good sized company, but I've yet to hear or see anything bad about them in print or media, and yes I look lol. They have an 11 state regional run that will have me home every 10-14days for two days. I've talked to their drivers, and former drivers and none have called the company a "machine." So I'm looking forward to feedback from all you guys. This is also in my blog, so reply there, THANKS

Got me a new home!!

44days left people...

Well we secured ourselves a house for our return to Vegas. Only down side there was that I had to set up the Lease to start Nov 15, even though we don't get there till Dec 16th. But the wife really wanted the house, so ofcourse she got it. hahaha...
Nice 3bd 2bath 2car gar, with a backyard view of the strip. Its up in the hills towards Lake Meade. Should be a nice place to stay and get used to live in Vegas, and life back in the states for that matter. Having been over 3years since I've been in the states, I'm quite ready to come home. Still trying to contact Schnieder and see if they can make a simular or better offer since it was recommended and they seem ver military friendly. More to come on that, so for now, Gunner out!

GOT A JOB!

Thats right folks, still 52 days (and a wake up) away from leaving Germany and I have a firm job offer. So I'm going to post it here and get some feedback from you find truckers out there. The position is with Swift out of Salt Lake. Starts with a 3day orientation, followed by 6 weeks on the road for training before going solo or team. So, how about it people, how's Swift? I've heard they are a good place to get your feet wet and get some experience for 6-12months, then go elsewhere for more money. Since at 12months I'll be at $0.33/mile (provided they make the promised raises) I'm curious how much more there is to make with 12months experience. Any input you all have would be awesome.

First Blog

Hello all, this is my first blog here, just to get things started, I'm not actually a truck driver yet as I'm still in the Army. I'm stationed in Germany and will be departing here bound for Las Vegas in mid December. Being that I drive trucks and other heavy equipment in the military my transition should be fairly easy into the trucking world. Just learning now the rig's shifting work (military trucks are all automatic) and paperwork not to mention backing up a 53ft'er which we don't use here. Anyways thanks for checking out my blog, I will post again when I get ready to leave here, and then start posting everytime I have something interesting to write about.
