getting frustrated

[Comments] [Send Article] [Improper]

i am a new driver, i graduated from a really good driving school here in ontario canada. I am relly having a hard time trying to get work. The school i went to was supposed to help get you work, but when i call they say they having nothing. I finally got a job about tow weeks ago, I was supposed to be trained for six to eight weeks shunting in their yard then on the road for two weeks with a coach. I was soo excited, I thought oh my god this is great! This is something i've always wanted to do but just did'nt have the guts. Everything was wonderful so i thought. They put me with a guy to train me in the yard, a very busy yard,But it was like working with the white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland. Always in a hurry and wouldn't let me do anything. So the next two days they put me with another guy, this guy was great, He let me actually drive an was very encouraging. He told me i was doing great and was really getting the hang of things. The next day i recieved a phone call telling me not to come in because they were not going to continue with my training because i was not fast enough to keep up with the expreinced drivers. How can they preach Saftey and tell you to go faster?? The makes no sence at all to me. So here i sit back at square one again. Broke and getting more frustrated with each passing jobless day.

Don't get discouraged, too many people have preconceived ideas about women in trucking. This is one of the few places that the playing field is level for ALL players. You would think that at least the younger men would have different ideas about women but it doesn't work that way. There is a woman friend of mine that made up her mind that she would succeed. She got into heavy haul and got 2 years of experience now she has bought her own truck and no one can tell her what to do, hey she even gets along with her boss. Keep your chin up and don't let the world get you down. There is someone, somewhere that will give you a chance. Check the freight companies they pay good and there are a lot of women involved.
