I wanna make a move in the trucking industry, but what company do I give a try. I got my license a little over 9 mos ago. I have driven straight trucks, making deliveries and I worked for various trash companies and the last one I worked for was just that "TRASH". So now I want to be with a good company. I am not looking for perfect, because they won't be getting perfect, but at least try and be the best. I don't have any shifting experience that's the thing that worries me most. So do I go with a company like US Express with the automatics or do I go with a company where I can get the shifting experience. And home time is a concern, and I know I can't be home like a local guy, but I do need to get home. So guy/gals give me some honest feedback. And remember the time when you were just starting out.

Been there done that, First you need the experience, so not all companies will hire you. You need to go with one that takes students,(to them thats what you are) Quite a few companies are going, or have went to automatic but, but request a manual tranny as your unit. When it comes to hometime as a new driver, hang it up. Expect to be out there atleast 2 weeks at time. You may be able to get away with 1 week with some companies but more or less that would be as a regional driver. Pay your dues, and you can get the home time the way you need it, just so your value to the company.
