I finished training just before Thanksgiving and I get my own truck on Monday. Training went okay. My trainer had a violent temper and was always in an extreme hurry, so I didn't dare take any time to do anything relaxing, such as doing a blog entry. But that chapter's done and now we'll see if I can make it out on the road on my own.
Most of training was spent in the midwest but we made two long trips. We took a load of gypsum roofing to Connecticut and brought back a load of hardwood from Massachusets to Kansas City. After that we took a load down to San Antonio and brought a load of steel back from Houston.
For the next several weeks I assume they'll keep me close to home until I get some experience under my belt. Now that I'm by myself I'll also be able to take my computer with me, so I should be able to report in more frequently.
Training Is Finished

Hi Jim, you said-
"For the next several weeks I assume they'll keep me close to home"
You may be assuming prematurely. My guess is that you're going to spend the next several weeks going to some of the most strange, out-of-the-way, and difficult places ever known to truck drivers. I could be wrong, though. Either way, you have our prayers along for the ride. I went to your website. Great stuff! I love the explanation of the rooster. And your article entitled "Daddy! Did I Do Okay?" really got me thinking. You may consider yourself an "ex" minister, but I think you'll find many ministry opportunities "out here on the road". You have valuable and unique insights regarding the nature of our divine grace. I hope to see you out here some time.

I would like to concur with Ken on this one they probably will give you the loads the veterans dread. But, it will make you a stronger driver and I don't think, and I think Ken will back me up on this, there are any atheists when you drive 18 wheels on black ice and feel the truck go ot from underneath you, I know it scared the hell out of me. Remember take your time get out and look if you need to.. so what if they call you a rookie at least you'll keep your record clean. When you get your truck make sure to go through your permit book with a fine tooth comb Don't get caught w/o the proper permits.. Zach
