A newbie drivers experience on the road

Day 4 classwork

[Comments] [Send Article] [Improper]

Well...

Today was not too difficult, just classwork. We watched a couple vids on pre-trip/post-trip inspection and the importance of them. I just can't see why someone would just start the truck up and drive off without checking the damn thing, I mean it's your life your dealing with and the life of everyone around you. Oh we also worked on coupling and un-coupling. Man I'd hate to have to call my manager and have to explain why I dropped the trailer on the ground, let alone have to call my family and tell them I got fired, and owe the money to fix the trailer and replace the damaged goods. All in all today went by fast. Tomorrow we practice backing and docking, pre-trip and coupling.
So I'm off to finish my homework.

Practice your backing as much as possible. That is where most drivers have problems. Going forward is the easy part, backing is the hardest. Whatever you do don't be hanging out the door to back up. I see more and more drivers doing that. If your holding onto the door and hanging out of it how are you able to have control of the wheel and see what is happening on your passenger side? Keep that door closed and use mirrors as much as possible. If uncertain about what is happening with the trailer, stop and get out to look.

You'd be surprised how many drivers don't do a proper pretrip...It's not very funny...VM-out!
