A newbie drivers experience on the road

Well here goes...

I am a complete newbie to trucking. I did however pass all my permit tests! (first try) I can't belive I did it. Now on to the next big step, driver training... Not sure what will happen, but I know that if I put enough effort into my studies, I'll do just fine. I have a great supportive wife, I hope I make her proud...

Keep the rubber side down...

Hey Krisko! Welcome to the Trucking Industry! With that enthusiasm, you should have no problem getting into the swing of things. Are you going local, regional, or long haul? Be sure to drop by www.cdldriver.net and check it out. Read the blog and feel free to comment if you want to. The Rate-A-School feature should be up and running shortly and you can take advantage of it to rate the performance of the school you attended now and you can also rate the company you will be working for once you've been with them for 60 days. That way, you can let other new drivers know what your experience was like and share any advice you think will be helpful to them. Happy Trails & Tudaloo! Loozlugnut

I'm sure you have read many of the posts in the future truck drivers section to know what type of things to watch out for. If not don't be afraid to ask questions on here. Some of us have many years in and know a thing or two about this business and will try our best to help out. I'm sure you will have some tough times in the near future and most everybody on here has experienced most of it. When it comes to needing help with anything we will see what we can do. Good luck

Well first off, truck driving is very long and very boring with moments of sheer terror. You will be gone for extended periods of time and its a very hard business for family life. This job requires a certain kind of personailty just to survive out on the road. If your independent, like driving to start with, don't mind being gone, and can deal with stresses like, appointment times, logbooks, permits, directions, and other things than you will do fine. I won't lie to you it looks easy seeing a truck going down the road but its much more involved than that...VM-out!

Hi, I'm currently a student at a truck training facility in Ontario Canada due to graduate Feb. 2, 2007. Been sending resumes out alot the pastr few weeks. Looks like I may have to start with Schneiders since alot of the other companies require atleast a years experience. The school I attend teaches a Markel Insurance approved course which I am told is supposed to give the new driver a head start upon entry level. What I am told is by completing the course I will have an equivalency to 2 years experience or a 2 star insurance rating. So far the response to the applications have been slow for the exception of Schneider National. I just want some advice and wisdom from people like yourself in the industry. I am hungry for knowledge. Thanks Krisko, I enjoyed reading your adventures! Take care! JimsOpus Thanks
