Well...
Its been a long week. We made it to California last week. It just so happened that I had to take a 34hr re-start in Cali. My Dad was happy to see me, we went golfing and had dinner with my Grandma. She turned 83 the day I had to leave, so that was a graet bonus to the time off. After picking up another load we headed out to Wisconsin. We found a great place to eat in Logan, New Mexico. The place is called Cherish's. Absolute great prices and even better food. When we hit Wisconsin and dropped off, we headed for Saratoga Springs, New York. We are now headed for Stone Mountain, Georgia. So....

Well...
It's been awhile since I've had any computer access, my trainer was able to get his laptop working and is nice enough to let me use it. Since hitting the road I've been to Geogia three times, up and down through Indiana and Illinois, been up and down through Wisconsin and down to Tennessee and Kentucky. Today weare headed to my state of birth CALIFORNIA! I have not been back there for around four or five years. I can say the only part I miss is the ocean.
We are trying to beat some bad weather coming our way...
I have to say my trainer has been better than I expected. I'm learning lots of new ideas and tricks to driving.
I getting alot better at driving and Logs. So back to driving and such...

Well...
Tomorrow will be the day that I hit the road with my trainer. I'm not really sure what to expect, but I know that I am confident in my skills to make it as a driver. I'm looking forward to seeing the states and meeting the expectations of my company. I know that every day I will miss my Wife and kids. Thankfully we have cellphones and the internet.
I'm not sure if I'll have the time to update every day but will try.

Well...
I graduated! I did really well on my finals today. I was amazed that I was not nervous. I clashed the gears a little, but that will get better as time goes by. I'm happy to be going on to the next step with the driver trainer. One step closer to making good money.
My personal opinion of the training I've received....
Millis provides all of the new drivers ample time behind the wheel, the range is clean and well managed and the training trucks are in good shape.
As for the trainers...
They represent the the industry very well, not once did they ask you to do anything that you were uncomfortable with. They encourage you every step of the way. When you have a problem they would step in and give you great advice on how to handle the situation. Both had a great sence of humor and willingness to to go the extra mile to help you on your way.
I've been to training classes before and found that they are in lots of ways better at educating someone, then most of the college professors I've had.
Mike Millis has a great school in Richfield. I hope he knows it.
My next step is orientation on Monday. So....

Well...
We spent the night driving all over the Milwaukee area. When I finally got behind the wheel around 4AM the fuel pressure started to drop at highway speed. It kept falling below 5lbs. So we had to take the truck back to the campus so that the guys could work on it today.
We have the rest of the day off and will start tomorrow at 5AM.
We only two more days left to go. Then we will be assigned our OTR triner and will hit the road for upwards of 12 weeks before we can get our own truck.
I'm really looking forward to getting out there and making some good money and finally be able to take of my wife and kids.
Truckers are a proud group of individuals and deserve alot of respect. Too bad other drivers don't give them the respect they deserve. I've been able to see this first hand, cars on the road think those trucks can stop on a dime. It takes a truck at 60mph, over 550 feet to come to a stop. Think about that the next time you cut a truck off....

Well...
Day 11 was cancelled due to the extreme weather (-31) and the fact that the fuel in the trining trucks gelled, and would not start.
Day 12 was spent driving over the roads near the training campus, I'm getting better I think.
We have ten hours off so that we can go to trining at midnight for some night driving. This should be interesting!
