I Decided to start off my trucking career up here with Schneider National Transportation Carriers based out of Guelph Ontario Canada. I was hired Monday Feb. 4th 2 days after being licensed. The people at head office in Green Bay Wi. have to do all the paper work and make arrangements for hotel accommadations in Guelph so It wont be until the beginning of March 2007 that I will start their advanced training. I'm searching for a reasonably priced Laptop (probably used) between $400-500. I'm thinking that I will go with the AirCard that Sierra Offers through my current cell/home phone provider. Anyone use an actual Desktop in the sleeper? I was wondering if a got AC converters in the sleeper if I could just use that instead of a laptop/notebook. I picked up a 13" Tv at a buy/sell place. I noticed Schneider's tractors have a satellite dish for the QualComm network. I wonder if I can some how use that dish for regular internet access. What I want is to be able to communicate on MSN instant messaging and browse the internet, chat and upload pictures etc. while on the road. Ok, if any of you want to share how you all connect to the internet while on the road, by all means post here! All for now...

Most of us use wifi. Most of the major truckstops are setup with it. Then you are able to get online while sitting in your truck. The card I think you are talking about is real expensive. I believe it's in the $60 a month range. Give or take a little. The advantage to it is you can connect most anywhere. Wifi is limited to truckstops, some rest areas, some fast food joints and you have to be within the range of its signal. But the biggest thing is the price is a whole lot less. Depending on how many days worth you buy, it can be less than half the price of an aircard. Most drivers don't have the time to be online every day to make it worth while to use the aircard. Most of the time you will be at a truckstop when you get the computer out and wifi will be a better option. Need to save a buck anyway you can in this business. As far as a computer to use, a laptop is alot easier to use. And the answer is no for using qualcom. Some companies are setup for email only

Check craigslist or try this www.pricewatch.com for a laptop or parts...Its my favorite place to search for computer gear....NOT AN AD..NOT AN AD..I make no money recommending either site....VM-out!!!
