Hello All, I'm in my first week of training as a OTR driver for Swift in Phoenix, AZ. I started in a class of 30 potential drivers and less than a week later we are at 21 souls. We lost a few guys the first day because of health&fitness reasons and now it seems that the back ground checks are weeding the rest out. So far we have been confined to the classroom studying for our CDL permits which we will test for on Monday the 31st, Halloween I think.
I made to decision to go with Swift even though I have heard/read most of the jokes on the internet about Swift drivers. Everybody has to start somewhere!
Well, I hope some familiar eyes have made it to this page! So check back as I will continue to update my training progress as well as my travels as I hit the road!
Hopps

Thanks for the encouraging words..no really I think that I've heard the very same thing at one point or another about every single company I have worked for. I'm approaching this as a starting point. And I'll still be looking for the company that's not using profit as the bottom line! Although I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon.

Hopps, you're right! There is no such thing as a "perfect" company. To a great extent, your experience will be whatever you can bear to make of it in view of the negatives that you will face. However, for those of us who have out here for a few years, there are companies we wouldn't even consider working for. Swift has just such a reputation. I don't think Zach meant to discourage you. I think he was trying to let you know there are better choices available. I am currently working on a website that will document driver experiences with carrier companies for that specific purpose. I would like to see the day when companies are held accountable for the promises they make and the treatment the give new and experienced drivers they hire. The only way we can do this is to create a database that will track patterns so that a new driver can make an informed decision when choosing a carrier to work for. Remember, this is now a drivers' market. We are key employees in this industry. Good Luck!
