Salt Lake City

I drove just under 900 miles to Salt Lake City on Saturday, left Everett about 11am and got into Salt Lake about 2 in the morning. I had such fun, listening to great music and enjoying the drive that I didnt want to stop and just kept on driving till I got there. I was told by my recruiter that I was to start Orientation on Tuesday so I thought I could just sleep through Sunday and catch back up. Roy was supposed to be into Salt Lake from a load sometime on Sunday so the timing looked good to me. He called and found out I was already there, and said to check into the England dorm instead of sleeping in the van.

When I checked into the dorm, I was told that I would start orientation at 7am Sunday morning! AACK!!! By this time its almost 4am Sunday morning, so I tried to sleep but found that impossible due to people snoring, talking on the cellphone, turning lights on and off and just making tons of noise in general. That alarm went off waaaaaay too quickly and I never did get to sleep. I struggled that whole day, got a horrible headache, then found out I would have a road test and backing test that afternoon. Oh my god... no sleep and a road test?! *sigh*

I did great on the backing test (it was very tight but thanks to some great advice from my sweety, I did just fine. I love backing!) but was waaaay too tired to do good on the road test. I ended up missing a gear right as I was going into a turn (very very very bad to do on a test, everyone misses gears sometimes, especially new drivers getting used to a new transmission.. and sometimes even experienced drivers miss gears even going into turns.. but dang it you dont do that when you're on a road test :S, very bad timing for that to happen and it's instant fail.) Soooo I had to retake the test a couple days later. :\

I passed the 2nd road test just fine of course because by then, Roy was there with my truck so I actually got some decent sleep. It is sooooo good to be back in the truck with my sweety, I finally feel like I am home again. I got 100% on the tests in the orientation class and ended up being the "Top Gun" of the class and I even got a "Top Gun" patch from Cory England. That was very cool. :)

Everything is done now except waiting for my drug test stuff to come back so Roy and I are chilling out at the EconoLodge, goofing off on the net and getting the truck ready to go again. As soon as my drug test stuff comes back then I can finish up the paperwork with the company and off I go in the big truck with my sweety and trainer, Roy. WOooooot!

Don't stress just take your time and do things at your own pace. It takes time to get used to shiftin all those gears anyway. Good luck to you on your new adventures. VM-out!
