I'm considering building a web site dedicated to the drivers who have lost their lives while in the performance of their duties as a professional driver.
I'd really like some ideas from anyone interested.
Here's what I have in mind.
We, as professionals, and for those who may not know this fact, are NOT considered 'skilled labor'. Even though our profession requires a lot of skill, we aren't looked at as such.
We lose many drivers every month due to accidents, and other events such as heart failure, and pedestrial accident.
I feel we need a change in the publics' opinion of us. We ARE skilled labor, and we ARE professionals. (as far as I'm concerned) That's going to take a lot of time to change.
I truely believe a good start would be a web site listing all of the professional drivers who have given their lives in the performance of their duty.
We serve the public as do the military, the police, and others. and by the loss of life of one of our comrades, we lose much more than just a person, we lose a professional who has dedicated his or her life to our industry and has lost his or her life in doing so.
I don't mean to attempt to compare our lifestyle to that of a police officer or a soldier. But I do believe we do our country a great service and we are needed.
I would like to get some response to my idea before I go any further with it from here. I am going to send an email to Dave Nemo, Dave and Steve Sommers, and Bill Mack. (XM radio show hosts)
As for information contained in a web site, I would like to enter name and ages of the drivers, a brief description of the reason for death, married or not, how many children and a picture of the driver and his or her truck and where and when it happened.
I'm sure you all understand how the sudden loss of a Father or Mother while in the performance of his or her job is extremely heart shattering to children left behind.
Please post replies to this blog for all to see. And I will reply to any questions or comments a.s.a.p.
I am a driver myself and I get home about every 7 to 10 days.
Thanks to all, and God Bless.

Having been an over the road driver for over 35 years, I'm personally getting sick of the drivers out there that seem to think they can toss their pee bottles, trash bags and etc. just any old place. !
There was a time when we, as professional drivers, were proud of our profession and well respected by all around us.
I heard on sat. radio last night how the state of Indiana is up-ing the fines for parking on the on ramps / off ramps to a minimum of $500. ! And one single reason stated really stood out from the rest, that was, that the communities are tired of seeing the human wastes tossed out on the ramps.
COME ON PEOPLE ! That is sick and stupid !
The same with the truck stops around the country. They smell like outhouses !
If you see a driver tossing his or her waste out on ramps, or the truck stop parking lot, for hell sakes TELL THEM on the c.b. !
Nothing like a good embarrassment to straighten them up !
We are professionals, let's start acting the part.
