409,000 Miles without an oil change.

A trucker named Haywood Gray is probably the most well known AMSOIL user in the trucking industry. Gray owned and operated a 1984 Mack (E9-400 V8) and at 45,000 miles changed to AMSOIL Synthetic Heavy Duty Diesel and Marine 15w-40 motor oil. For the next 280,000 miles he changed the oil at 40,000 to 60,000 mile intervals even though the oil analysis showed that the oil was still good and could be left in the crankcase. At 325,000 miles Gray increased the drain interval to 100,000 miles. The engine was torn down at 600,000 miles and the internal parts were found to be in execellent shape. Gray sold that Mack and purchased a 1990 Mack (E7-400).

Gray used the same AMSOIL diesel motor oil in his new truck engine. However, instead of draining the crankcase at the 100,000 mile intervals he installed an AMSOIL bypass filter kit and based his change interval on the findings of the oil analysis tests. After 630,000 miles total and 409,000 miles without an oil change the engine was torn down at a Mack dealership and the internals were inspected by an engine rater from a major oil additive manufacturer.

As you probably can guess, the engine rater stated that the cylinder liners, pistons, rings, bearings, and valve train components could have been put back into the engine and would have continued to provide good service. This was after 409,000 miles without an oil change.

AMSOIL provides numerous documented demonstrations of extended oil change intervals with trucking fleets. Change intervals of 4x and 5x are common. With serious attention to filter changes and using oil analysis as a guide, truckers can easily drive 75,000 to 100,000 miles without an oil change.
