A Truckers Voice
My husband is a truck driver and he has been driving for about 30 years and I have gone with him on many of his runs. We even lived together in his truck for about 2 years, and during that time he taught me how to drive. That is what brings me to creating this page. I have seen my share of accidents and they can be very bad, and I've seen people walk away without a scratch.
I recently went on a trip with my husband to Florida, and the people that drive in their little cars and trucks amazed me at how stupid some people can be. They get in such a hurry and don't think of the consequences that can and sometimes do happen when they rush to get in front of those BIG 18 WHEELERS and then have to slam on their breaks. They don't relies how much power and force there is in one of those big trucks. They can't just stop one a dime like these little cars and trucks can. There is about 30,000 pounds of truck and trailer unloaded and a maximum of about 80,000 pounds loaded, depending on what they are hauling. If someone pulls out in front of them, or cuts them off and doesn't give enough clearance and then slams on the break, I feel they caused the wreck, but yet the truck driver is blamed for the accident because he didn't stop in time.
I understand that there shouldn't be some truck drivers out on the road but those are the truck drivers that went thru a school for six weeks and then went to work for a company that didn't have some one qualified enough to give these school taught drivers the proper amount of training. They usually have someone that has been with a company for only a few years, when they need to have at least a 10 year veteran of truck driving to properly train these drivers that are fresh out of school.
Another issue I have is that they are not given the respect they deserve!!!!! THEY ARE THE BACK BONE OF THE WORLD!!!!!! They deliver the products to all these stores and other companies like the steel mills. Without the drivers moving those trucks down the road, we as the consumer would not have the food and other materials we need to live, but yet the drivers have to sit and wait. They are the ones that are fround upon because they have gotten such a bad attitude. Most of our truck drivers don't get paid to sit and wait. They only get paid if the loads get delivered. If they are a company driver they get paid by the mile at a max of $. 45 per mile, or like my husband, 25% of what a load pays (like 25% of $250 load), and sometimes you can make some good money but most of the time it's not.
Well any way that is my voice for the truck drivers of America. Please feel free to comment and give your opinions and pass this site on to your friends and family. We need to help our back bones of America in every way possible!!!!
